Ingredients:
1 12-ounce can evaporated milk
1/2 cup whole milk
2 cups sugar
1 bark of cinnamon
1 teaspooon vanilla
Steps:
1. Mix evaporated milk, whole milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium saucepan.
2. Boil at low to medium temperature, moving constantly with a wooden spoon until it reaches a temperature of 240 degrees Fahrenheit. This will take from 45 to 60 minutes.
3. Adjust temperature as needed so the mixture doesn't spill over.
4. Once temperature is reached, withdraw from heat and remove cinnamon bark.
5. Mix vigorously to thicken as mixture cools. Use mixer if you prefer.
6. Cover one or two cookie baking sheets with wax paper.
7. Sprinkle flour or confectioner's sugar on your hands so the mixture doesn't stick.
8. Using candy batter, form small rectangular shapes (finger size) and place on cookie sheets.
9. Let candy cool and harden and store in airtight container.
What makes this recipe special?
This is the ultimate Guatemalan candy! You can buy it at fairs and in our colonial cities, and it is the best candy ever.
