Ingredients:
1/2 cup real maple syrup
Fresh snow
Steps:
1. Boil the syrup in a large saucepan while stirring with a wooden spoon until syrup reaches 235 to 245 degrees Fahrenheit. (It is best to use a candy thermometer to measure the temperature.)
2. Carefully pour the hot maple syrup onto snow. The syrup will harden quickly.
3. Enjoy the candy while still warm.
What makes this recipe special?
My father first introduced me to this tradition in rural New Hampshire and as a child, it was especially magical to watch the syrup solidify on the snow.
