24
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
2 beaten eggs
3 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Steps:
For dough (pre-prep):
1. Combine all ingredients (usually I combine the dry ingredients and then add in the liquids; no need to use separate bowls).
2. Wrap the dough in aluminum foil or plastic wrap and chill until firm.
For cookies:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Roll out part of the dough. (I usually roll out 1/3 at a time.)
3. Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes. (My kid loves this part.)
4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on your oven and how soft you like your cookies. I usually split the time between the top rack and the bottom rack.
What makes this recipe special?
This is a long-time family recipe enjoyed every Halloween and Christmas. Decorating them is the best part—the family comes together for the creative process.
Additional notes:
As you can see in the photo, we have a lot of fun decorating these. There are many cookie glaze recipes on the web (we use King Arthur Flour's recipe). These cookies are hearty and can take on many types of decorations, such as M&Ms, nonpareils, etc.
