RTI volunteers help Food Bank meet goal of 200,000 packaged meals
On May 23, 2019, RTI staff members dug in to bundle family-sized bags of rice to help Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina meet its goal of packaging 200,000 meals. During the event, volunteers sorted bulk food into family-sized bags for distribution to those in need. Sort-A-Rama is part of Food Bank’s annual Stop Summer Hunger campaign which aims to fill the summer meal gap.

American Red Cross Sound the Alarm
RTI in partnership with the American Red cross teamed up with Durham fire departments to help install smoke alarms in the Durham community on April 27, 2019. “RTI is committed to improving the communities in which we live and work,” said Executive Vice President of Human Resources Lisa May. “Thanks to the volunteerism of our staff members, in partnership with the American Red Cross, RTI is excited to lend support to the Durham community.”

RTI’s Controller’s Office Day of Service
Staff members from RTI's Controller's Office volunteered at the Interfaith Food Shuttle's Food Drive for Backpack Buddies on March 29, 2019. Supported by members of various ERGs, the group packed 220 bags with 1,320 meals for a total of 670 pounds of food. "RTI is committed to not only helping to feed children, we are also reducing anxiety over food insecurity and bringing the children hope," said Beatriz Ebadirad, global travel manager in the Office of the Controller.

VALoR ERG supports intergenerational residents at the Duke VA Community Living Center
RTI’s Veterans and Allies (VALoR) Employee Resource Group partnered with Duke VA Physical Medicine and Rehab Services Recreation Therapy and the American Red Cross to sponsor game night for residents of the Duke VA Community Living Center on March 20, 2019. VALoR members and their guests played various games, including monopoly, backgammon, checkers, family feud, bowling, corn hole, and poker. VALoR ERG members will support the Duke VA games each month through December.

RTI’s UNA Comunidad employee resource group sponsors March Madness food drive for BackPack Buddies
Several RTI employee resource groups (ERGs) collaborated with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to collect and sort non-parishible food items for the Food Shuttle’s Backpack Buddies program from March 4 through 18, 2019. Hosted by the UNA Comunidad ERG, other participating groups included the Young Professionals, Working Parents, and VALoR ERGs. The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Backpack Buddies program provides children from low-income households with nutritious meals and snacks.

More than 25 RTI staff members and their guests answered the call to raise nearly $28,000 in pledges during RTI's annual corporate night sponsorship of UNC-TV's 2019 spring on-air fundraiser on March 12, 2019.

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging
Roughly 50 staff members from RTI's Washington, D.C. office recently gathered to package meals during this year's 'Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging' event. The RTI staff packaged 10,000 meals in 90 minutes.
